Desire Paths

  • Koncertkirken 6A Blågårds Plads København, 2200 Denmark (map)

Chamber music for saxophones, clarinets, piano, accordion and electronics. In Desire Paths, many contrasting paths coexist simultaneously: microtonality, deconstructivism inspired by video games and internet culture, excavations of unusual timbral combinations, and mutated salsa music, spatialised through eight loudspeakers.

We present exploratory composition as a field with several exciting avenues rather than a single ideology. The only dogma here is plurality. The concert takes its title from a human phenomenon known as Desire Paths. ‘Desire paths’ meander beyond the organised pavements and parks of our urban spaces; they are the unofficial footprints of individuals that reveal unspoken preferences, shared shortcuts and the collective choices of people who dare to step outside the norms. The programme features the world premiere of Stine Benjaminsen’s new work ‘Edge Effects’, commissioned by Ear Transplant, and the world premiere of James Black’s piece for solo saxophone ‘É5QÖï’, written in close collaboration with soloist Anja Nedremo, with whom James has a longstanding artistic relationship.
