In the court of King Christian IV, musicians performed in a hidden underground chamber to be kept out of sight of the King’s guests. Music and Silence is a collaboration with duo Cake of Day, which imagines what it might have been like for these musicians and places their struggles in the present day. Concealing the sound sources gives way to ambiguous acoustic consequences, creating a sense of uncertainty in the audience. Are there any musicians playing at all? Joss Smith’s work is paired with a new performance composed by Cake of Day.
